highlights from the press release

Paint means seduction, seduction means death: for every hunter, there is a fawn trembling in silent hysteria. Death is slow, yet sudden when it comes. There is his mouth, all anticipation.
Here is my neck. (Corinne Halbert)

Halbert's characters are abstracted from Werner Herzog's 1979 release Nosferatu: the Vampyre; starring the deeply enigmatic Klaus Kinski and Isabella Adjani as the ravishing and strange Lucy Harker. The signal colors:black, white and red dominate her works. The vampires ashen face and deep-set eyes; the victim's pale skin; her tempting blood red lips and long dark hair; the darkness of the surroundings and the blood running from the wound on her neck. A strange couple, united in an intimate play of domination and submission.

Each painting becomes a moment within a sequence, as if frames on a film spool. In film, multiple frames make up a second of time in the form of moving pictures. In my paintings, I want each piece to function as a grouping of frames or a still from a scene. In this way, the paintings are part of a larger narrative, born of imagination and light. This larger, growing and unfinished narrative cuts to the core of my work. (Corinne Halbert)

Bunnyland Triptych

In 2005 I made my first triptych which I call bunnyland. The premise is pretty out there, it is a fantasy narrative about a beautiful unspoiled place called bunnyland.

Corrupt human business men develop the technology to travel inter-dimensionally. Once they get to bunnyland they start capturing all the native creatures and enslaving them and mutating them. Making human animal amalgams and droves of bundled bunny slave workers. Inevitably these greedy men will destroy bunnyland just like they did to there home planet earth.

They are works on paper, made with crayons, markers, ball point and ink pens as well as acrylic paint. They are all approximately 15 1/2"w x 12h".

the Gathering

I started a whole new way of working that lasted for about two years with this piece entitled the gathering which I completed in 2003. I had already been painting at the time but I mostly drew with ball point pens and ink pens before this major shift in my work. With the gathering I started to collect large quantities of my little drawings and developed environments for them. I would cut them out and make mixed media assemblages. Sometimes I would draw right on the paper as well as collage figures down. This piece is 23"w x 18"h.

The Gathering was made on a piece of paper which I then adhered to a piece of wood which is painted black. This piece is very psychological, the figure in the center is me and I am sitting in a room with no furniture surrounded by my creations, strange dark figures that they are.
It is very difficult for me to get a good shot of this piece so sorry it's not higher quality.

Self Portrait at 16

Since I am new to blogging I will start by posting some of my older work. This first piece is a self portrait I did when I was sixteen or so. The piece is oil on canvas paper and it's 12"w x 16"h. I was a pretty morbid teenager.

the Melvins

I was in the Melvin's Army art show on May 18th, 2009. The show was put together by Cheri Basak, owner of Revolution tattoo and all around awesome lady. The show was at the Flat Iron bar across from the Melvin's concert at the Double Door. All proceeds of paintings sold were donated to the Paul Green School of Rock. This was my painting, including a detail of Dale Crover.
